This is Lagos, Eko o ni baje o
Such is the salutation
That welcomes you to Lagos,
Nigeria’s centre of excellence
Where virtually all things are possible
The home of the rich and the poor
In a good harmonious co-existence
Better called “no man’s land”
Diverse in culture, unique and habitable
But not without the daily hustles and bustles
Sights and sounds of Lagos echo
Indeed really amusing but real
Sometimes, like living in jungle
Where all that matters is survival
Everyone rushes to get his daily bread
“Oshodi, Mile 2, Airport road”
Sound from the cracked voice of the bus conductor
With the bus partially stopped but yet on the move
You must hustle to get to your destination
You must struggle to get out of the bus
Such is the life in Lagos, our great heritage
Everybody on the move, always in hurry
No one comes to Lagos, and remain the same
No one goes out of Lagos without impression
Every street, every corner, every nooks and cranny
Becomes a business point for the struggling masses
Or else hunger would be your visitor
And who cares if you starve yourself to death
Some live in mansions and castles
Greater number lives in huts and under bridge
While some are in paradise of Victoria Island
Many are struggling for spot to lay their heads
In the ghettos of Ajegunle and Ikorodu
Any yet, all are in Lagos, and life goes on
Eko o ni baje o
