This is an unprecedented experience that takes you into the belly of the ‘Venice Of Africa’. Makoko is a century-old floating city, home to more than a hundred thousand inhabitants. Situated on the intersection of Lagos island and mainland, Makoko is a resilient multi-cultural settlement with its unique environmental and developmental challenges.
Our slum tour kicks off with a visit to the paramount ruler of the town to pay homage, after which we proceed into the belly of the slum to experience the way of life and daily realities of this thriving settlement. You’ll be captivated by the floating shops, schools, churches, mosques, hospitals, shops and local dogs swimming from house to house in the water. The trip’s highlight is the meandering boat cruise, alongside other boats across the slum, which climaxes with a stunning view of the Third Mainland Bridge across the Lagos lagoon, the longest of its kind in West Africa.
