Why Abu Dhabi is Slashing its Tourism Fees

Abu-Dhabi-signAbu Dhabi is hoping to attract more tourism by reducing tourism fees.

Following a series of meetings and discussions conducted with local investors, the Abu Dhabi Executive Council has agreed to lower tourism fees from 6 percent to 3.5 percent and municipality fees from 4 percent to 2 percent.

The move comes as the destination is aiming to provide high-end tourist, leisure and cultural facilities at the best possible value for residents and tourists in Abu Dhabi.

The executive committee at the Abu Dhabi Executive Council has also endorsed the reduction of municipality fees for hotel rooms from USD 4.00 to 12.00 room and per night. The fees will also be collected half-yearly, instead of monthly, according to Gulf News.

Gulf News reported the fees reduction comes as part of the Abu Dhabi Development Accelerators Programme launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu DhabiExecutive Council.

The committee, chaired by Jasem Mohammad Buatabh Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, approved a proposal on the reduction that was earlier submitted by Mohammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi.

According to Gulf News,  the Abu Dhabi Executive Council is also aiming to continue plans for investment in tourism infrastructure and attract investors to construct and develop tourist and entertainment facilities that would add to Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading tourism destination.
