The Fattening Rooms of Cross River and Akwa Ibom, Nigeria

The fattening room is a premarital practice of Cross River and Akwa Ibom state of Southern Nigeria. Women are kept in a fattening room, only to eat and sleep for the purpose of fattening up. They are also taught how to take care of the home and their husbands. This process lasts for a period of six months.
